BBST 686 - Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and the Kin-dom of God3 credits
With some interruptions, a quest for the historical Jesus has gripped European and North American scholarship for more than a century. This course expands this focus, giving attention to the basileia movement and to the Mary Magdalene traditions – two topics indisputably related to Jesus but not identical with him. An engagement with both scholarly and non-expert translations of historical, empire-critical, feminist, social-scientific, and postcolonial approaches to biblical interpretation are central to the course. Prerequisite: BBCL 506 .
