ENGH 384 - Studies in British Literature: London Literature4 credits For this course, students become London flaneurs, walking the streets and interpreting the signs of the city as if it were a text. Readings include a range of eighteenth-, nineteenth-, and twentieth-century writings, among them Dickens, Our Mutual Friend, Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, Waugh’s Vile Bodies, and Ali’s Brick Lane. By paying close attention to both text and context, students achieve a lively appreciation of the works in and of themselves and as part of the cultural life of London. CLA-Breadth/Humanities
