Drew University has a list of reserved course numbers that are used university-wide only for the purpose indicated. A list of the reserved course numbers are available on the Faculty/Staff Tools & Info page on the Registrar’s Office website.

Seminars

Seminars are limited to advanced students in the field. Registration often requires approval by the instructor.

Credits

Credit hours granted for successful completion of a course are listed in the expanded course information in the catalog, beneath the course title and above the description. A course with variable credits will display with a number range, e.g. 1-4 credits. A student can verify the number of credits expected to be earned by viewing the schedule of classes each term.

Prerequisites

Most courses with prerequisites note required prerequisite courses and grades in the course description. In lower-level and intermediate-level foreign language courses and frequently in the sciences, the first semester of a year long course, or its equivalent, is prerequisite to the second.

Enrollment Limitations

When the number of students who wish to register for a course exceeds any stated limit on enrollment, students may choose to be added to the waitlist. Once a seat becomes available, students will be notified via their Drew University email to add the course.

Some courses are offered in several sections. Individual preferences are accommodated whenever possible, but students are not guaranteed assignment to a particular course section. The University reserves the right to cancel scheduled courses for which it judges enrollment to be insufficient.

Frequency of Course Offerings

Some courses are offered each semester or annually; others are offered over a two- or three-year period. Whenever possible, frequency is noted in the course description; however, the particular offerings for each semester are determined by the needs of the students, the available faculty, and the requirements of the course. The schedule of classes is published in advance of registration each semester and provides the courses being offered for the next term. It can be accessed through TreeHouse and from the Registrar’s Office website.

Class Schedule

Classes normally meet three days a week for 50- or 65-minute periods, or two days a week for 75- or 90-minute periods, Monday through Friday. Some classes have an added discussion period or laboratory. A few classes, particularly advanced seminars, may be held during an evening period. Seminars normally meet weekly for one two-and-a-half-hour session. An overview of the time grid (schedule blocks) is available on the Registrar’s Office Registration webpage.
