PHYS 331 - Optics4 credits A study of the wave equation, properties of wave motion, and electromagnetic waves. The propagation of light, dispersion, and absorption. Geometrical optics, lenses, optical systems. Superposition, interference, and Fraunhofer and Fresnel diffraction. Topics in modern optics. Meets: Four hours lecture. Prerequisite: PHYS 150 , PHYS 160 , and MATH 250 . Offered spring semester in even-numbered years.
