AREL 841 - Voices of the “Lost Generation”3 credits
In the aftermath of World War 1, a group of young American writers arose out of what Gertrude Stein called the “lost generation”. Having seen death and carnage on a massive scale, many lost faith in traditional values like courage, patriotism, and accepted gender roles. Through the writings of Paula McLain (The Paris Wife), Remarque (All Quiet on the Western Front), T.S. Elliot (Hollow Man), Hemingway (A Movable Feast), Fitzgerald (This Side of Paradise) and Stein (The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas) we will learn what these voices from the past have to tell us about society, war, gender roles, and human survival. ARHI-G-A&L History
