Most of the course will be devoted to a close reading of O’Connor’s short stories, but we will also seek to illuminate her distinctive accomplishment in the form by setting her work side by side with a few forebears and foils, such as certain tales of Nathaniel Hawthorne and some of Stephen Crane’s curious late stories and poems.
