BBCL 635 - Religion and Health in the Hebrew Bible3 credits The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The course explores the intersections of biblical interpretation and this expansive understanding of conventional and non-conventional health, with particular focus on physical health, mental health, environmental health, and ritual health; as well as analyses of some “healthcare systems” and processes that respond to disease and dis-ease in the ancient Near East and in the Bible.
