Requirements for the Major (44 credits)

All English majors must complete the required courses listed below and select one emphasis for their major: Literature, Creative Writing, or Writing and Communications.

II. Emphasis


Choose one of the following three:

A. LITERATURE


At least two courses in the emphasis must include consideration of texts written before 1900.

3 courses (12 credits) electives, at least 1 course (4 credits) at the upper-level

4 upper-level literature courses (16 credits)

Electives (3 courses)

Any ENGH course, one must be upper-level

Upper-level literature courses (4 courses)

B. CREATIVE WRITING


At least one course in the emphasis must include consideration of texts written before 1900.

3 courses (12 credits) electives in literature, at least 1 course (4 credits) at the upper-level

4 upper-level writing workshops (16 credits):

C. WRITING AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES


ENGH 240 - Introduction to Writing and Communication Studies    

At least one course in the emphasis must include consideration of texts written before 1900    

2 courses (8 credits) of electives, at least one course (4 credits) of which is upper-level

4 intermediate and upper-level writing studies courses (16 credits)

Introduction to Writing and Communication Studies (1 course)

Electives (2 courses)

Writing Studies Courses (4 courses)

At least two at the upper-level.
