Master of Arts in Teaching


Degree Requirements


Elementary Education


Students in the Master of Arts in Teaching complete 36 credit hours from Education listings, as well as approved courses from other Caspersen programs.   

Secondary Education


Students in the Master of Arts in Teaching complete 36 credit hours from Education listings, as well as approved courses from other Caspersen programs.

V. Elective (3 credits)


Taken from existing EDUC or Caspersen School of Graduate Studies courses with approval by advisor.

Note: Students interested in dual certification with an Endorsement in TOSD or ESL are encouraged to select one of the required courses for those programs as their elective.

VI. Clinical Field Experience (3 credits coursework plus fieldwork):


All fieldwork is tied to coursework and documented on the transcript.

Endorsements


Teaching of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) Endorsement


Students in the Teaching of Students with Disabilities Endorsement complete 21 credit hours from Education listings, as well as approved courses from other Caspersen programs; up to 9 credits can be taken as part of MAT Elementary or MAT Secondary Education programs.  Currently certified teachers can complete the endorsement program as part of coursework in the Master of Education program or as a stand-alone program.

Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement


Students in the Teaching English as a Second Language Endorsement complete 18 credit hours from Education listings, as well as approved courses from other Caspersen programs; up to 6 credits can be taken as part of MAT Elementary or MAT Secondary Education programs. Currently certified teachers can complete the endorsement program as part of coursework in the Master of Education program or as a stand-alone program.
