Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Program Requirements

The Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree is an advanced research degree in the practice of ministry for experienced religious leaders. Students deepen leadership capacities as they reflect theologically, explore changing contexts of ministry, and pursue research in dialogue with faculty mentors and a cohort of ministry professionals.

Curriculum

The 30-credit DMin degree consists of 18 credits of coursework and 12 credits for theologically reflective ministerially-based research. The rhythm and content of the program varies with each thematic cohort. All students complete a publishable-quality contribution to the field of ministry and the work of the church in changing contexts.

Program Duration and Location

Depending on the cohort, the DMin can be completed in 2 or 3 years. Credits are earned in a combination of in-person and online courses. Online classes are typically semester-long experiences with weekly online meetings. In-person classes meet in week-long intensive formats in October, January, March, and July or August. Most cohorts include at least one intensive session at Drew’s campus in Madison, New Jersey. Other thematic cohorts feature gatherings in locations such as New York City, South Korea, and Orcas Island in Washington state.
