About the Program

The Master of Arts in Teaching Program prepares teachers to meet the challenges of diverse learners in 21st century classrooms.  Drew’s program leads to a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with teacher certification in elementary or secondary education.  We prepare secondary education teachers in the subjects of : art, biology, chemistry, English, French, Italian, math, music, physics, Spanish, social studies, or theatre arts.  All teacher candidates who complete our program are also eligible for certification as Teacher of Students with Disabilities, an essential requirement in today’s educational landscape.  The MAT Program develops teachers who are able to meet the challenges of diversity in the classroom, especially in addressing the needs of students with special learning needs, in a variety of instructional settings.

Teacher candidates in the MAT learn to apply their interdisciplinary knowledge and pedagogical competencies to effectively educate all students and meet their academic, social and developmental needs.  We merge theory and practice through the study of human development, pedagogy and educational policy.  Our teacher candidates engage in a wide range of classroom experiences in urban and suburban settings and resource rooms to inclusive classrooms.
