In recent decades, data analysis and visualization, computer simulation, and computer modeling have become important tools for research and inquiry. In some fields the change has been revolutionary, transforming the nature of knowledge itself. Without computing technology, for example, we simply could not know what we know today about genomics, neuroscience, or geography. In every realm—transportation, health care, public policy, astronomy, the environment, and more—data informs our lives and decisions.
Drew’s interdisciplinary minor in Data Science enables students to understand and experience the role of data and computing technology in modern research and decision making.
Introductory courses in Data Science, computer programming, and applied statistics prepare students to learn and practice the core tools of Data Science: data visualization, modeling and simulation, and data analysis. Electives, at least one of which must be taken from outside the Data Science core, complete the minor.
