CHST 750 - Confessions and Confession3 credits This seminar centers on Augustine’s Confessions while also using the text to explore more broadly the character of confessional language, literature, ritual. The approach is interdisciplinary and readings potentially include not only Augustine’s but also Rousseau’s Confessions, as well as selections from the works of such theorists as Peter Brooks, Paul DeMan, Jacques Derrida. Enrollment priority: Open to doctoral and advanced masters students. Signature of instructor required for registration.
