CHST 739 - Martyrdom and Asceticism in the Early Church3 credits An examination of martyrdom and asceticism, particularly at their points of intersection and overlap, that focuses on the production of the self as sufferer in ancient Christian martyrology and hagiography, with reference also to Jewish and pagan literatures.
