CHST 750 - American Jesus3 credits
Examines how Jesus is represented through word and image in a variety of different contexts and time periods in the United States. Invites students to think critically about how representations of Jesus have been deployed in the United States, by whom, and for what purposes. How is the understanding of Jesus shaped by particular social contexts and concerns? What political, theological, and other cultural assumptions and realities lay beneath the surface of each representation?
