3 credits Considers significant memoirs of the 20th and 21st centuries. Addresses the themes of journey, exile, shame, self-acceptance, and forgiveness. Among other works, students examine Mark Doty’s Dog Years, Joan Didion’s Year of the Magical Thinking, Mary Karr’s The Liar’s Club, Lison Bechdel’s Fun Home, Patti Smith’s Just Kids, and Art Spiegelman’s Maus I and II.
