ARGS 821 - Contemporary Uses of Mythology: The Journey Back to Self

3 credits
Odysseus’s journey to reclaim his kingdom also challenged him to recognize and reclaim his own “shadow,” his fearfulness, and his feminine aspect.  Students examine Odysseus’s struggle as a pattern for the adult journey back to self.  Readings may include works by Homer, Jung, Rilke, Akhmatova, Neruda, Eliot, Paton, Wilder, Sexton, Bly, and Joyce.
