ARFA 811 - Watercolorist’s Craft: Book Arts/Word and Image3 credits Provides a hands-on approach to painting, using watercolor as a medium. Explores watercolor’s particular relationship to ‘the art of the book’. This connection ranges from historic, cultural artistic works, to artists’ illustrated journals and publications, to illustrated children’s literature, to visual works by literary figures. These varied examples provide context and inspirational possibilities for our own creative works and research, considering the interconnections of word, image, and book form. Students will have the opportunity to create their own watercolor paintings (and even illustrated book forms) in this class, experimenting with various treatments of the medium. No previous painting experience is required, and all levels of experience are welcome.
