ARHI 860 - History of Sexuality in the Contemporary West3 credits Explores some of the major themes and milestones in the history of sexuality in the United States and Europe. The examination begins in the late nineteenth century, with the emergence of a “modern” sexuality. Following a theoretical introduction to the field, students are introduced to, among other topics, the invention of homo- and hetero- sexuality; sexual citizenship; challenges to sex- and gender- binaries; sex work and the regulation of sexual bodies; and race and disability in the construction of normative and queer sexuality.
