ARGS 815 - The Renaissance in Italy3 credits The importance of the Renaissance in the development of Western culture cannot be overstated. Approaches all the fundamental aspects of the Italian Renaissance and the historical-cultural period that influenced it, such as the age of Classical art and its adaptation to the Christian world. Analyzes some of the work by Petrarch, Dante, Machiavelli, Giordano Bruno and others. Also compares the Italian Renaissance with the Northern Renaissance to better understand the peculiarities of the cultural turmoil in Europe at that time. Field trips to the Metropolitan and the Frick Collection in New York City will permit students to study and enjoy some of the actual masterpieces produced by artists such as Perugino, Raphael, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, giving the students a more intimate experience of Renaissance art.
