HIST 351 - Writing History as Fact and Fiction

4 credits
The premise of nonfiction is ‘that is what happened’. The field of History has much to say on how we know, and write, about what happened. Issues include the nature and status of facts, narrative as creating perceptions of accuracy and realism, and the accessibility of historical analysis to a wider public audience. Students may examine these issues at the intersection of historical and creative nonfiction via comparative study of a variety of media, such as novels, magazine articles, traditional historical writing and film, as well as through writing exercises for students to develop their own craft. Open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.  CLA-Breadth/Interdisciplinary, CLA-Writing Intensive
