ESS 305 - Medical Geography

4 credits
Investigates the intersections of health and location. Illuminates the importance of local knowledge for public health, connects issues in health and well-being across scales, and demonstrates the ways that geographic methods are relevant in health sciences, societal sciences, and policy arenas. Involves discussion of the presence and sources of health inequalities across countries, including the U.S. Explores the impact of identity, state, and global organizations on individual, family and community health. In order to link theory and practice, students are connected to community partners that work globally, nationally, and locally, and whose missions are to protect and promote human health.  Student coursework may include a minimum 18-20 hours of work that directly supports our community partners, which also involves some participation in off-campus activities.
