ENGH 351 - British Literature of the 18th and 19th Centuries: Advanced Studies4 credits Offers in-depth study of a particular author, genre, theme, or topic from the nineteenth century in Britain. Topics may include Romantic or Victorian poetry, the development of the novel, reading public and the rise of popular literature, as well as a particular author or group of authors, Austen, Dickens, the Baronets, Eliot, Tennyson, Browning. May also explore literary responses to and representations of the French Revolution, industrialization, secularization, empire, or women’s emancipation. Asks students to develop their literary critical writing through assignments that place primary texts in dialogue with the work of literary and cultural critics. Prerequisite: ENGH 150 CLA-Writing Intensive
