HIST 313 - The Atomic Bomb & American History4 credits Examines nuclear power/nuclear weapons from the making and use of the atomic bombs against Japan in 1945 through the Cold War arms race of the subsequent four decades, down to proliferation, WMD, and terrorism of today. Topics may include the arms race, the global ‘ban the bomb’ movement that paralleled it, nuclear proliferation, the political economy of arms sales, asymmetrical warfare and terrorism, among others. Explores the history of the atom bomb, but may also deal with ‘atomic culture’ through the use of films/videos/songs/etc. throughout. CLA-Breadth/Humanities, CLA-Writing Intensive
