HIST 355 - The United States and the World

4 credits
Examines U.S. foreign relations and interaction with the wider world during the twentieth century. Focuses on key junctures and episodes while necessarily proceeding chronologically. Also examines the United States on a larger scale of the world with emphasis on such issues as the role of leaders as well as organizations, private and non-state actors, ideology, imperialism, revolution, and the political economy of war. Students may evaluate the changing ways in which the world has judged American power, presence & influence over the years. Students will have the opportunity to deal with these matters through secondary sources as well as primary sources of policymakers, activists, and intellectuals.
