CLAS 302 - Greek and Roman Religions

4 credits
An introduction to the religious thought and practices of the ancient Greeks, Romans, and (in this context) the early Christians. Topics may include ritual, worship, and sacrifice; beliefs about the underworld and afterlife; the ancient mystery cults and the rise of Christianity; philosophical challenges to religion; the conflict of paganism and Christianity. Emphasis is placed on original literary, artistic, and archaeological sources. Same as REL 302 . Prerequisite: A previous Classics course (preferably CLAS 215 ) or a previous REL course.
