CLAS 302 - Greek and Roman Religions4 credits An introduction to the religious thought and practices of the ancient Greeks, Romans, and (in this context) the early Christians. Topics may include ritual, worship, and sacrifice; beliefs about the underworld and afterlife; the ancient mystery cults and the rise of Christianity; philosophical challenges to religion; the conflict of paganism and Christianity. Emphasis is placed on original literary, artistic, and archaeological sources. Same as REL 302 . Prerequisite: A previous Classics course (preferably CLAS 215 ) or a previous REL course.
