BBST 755 - Biblical Studies Travel Seminar

0-3 credits
Studies the material culture and history of Ancient Near Eastern, Greek, Roman, and/or Byzantine antiquity, culminating in a trip to sites in the Mediterranean region. Includes visits to archaeological sites, museums, synagogues, and churches and discusses the physical spaces, visual representations, and everyday materiality of the ancient world. Course topics can include: the built and visual culture of empire, imperial and local religion, the construction of sacred space, religious pilgrimage, asceticism, martyr cults, healing shrines, domestic life, and the theory and politics of archaeology.  Locations vary. Signature of instructor required for registration.
