MDHM 612 - Art History: Medical Illustration

3 credits
Introduces students to the history and theory of scientific illustration, both Western and non-Western and the methods for organizing, developing and producing illustrations capable of conveying a message.  Focuses on three main points: the history of medical illustration; the methods of planning and organizing of scientific illustrations, including research, narration of a process, technique; and field trips.  Students need not have artistic ability, but are encouraged to think visually and try out some basic skills to better understand the process of moving from concepts to images.
