ARCR 809 - Religious Pluralism in America3 credits
Since its inception, America has served as a refuge for peoples fleeing religious persecution. Religious pluralism would come to be seen as a source of strength, forming a core, founding principle of American democracy. In this course, we will study religious pluralism in the U.S. through a series of case studies, both historical and contemporary. We will examine questions about how these ideas evolved over time, how the law protects religious freedom, and how the dynamics of diverse faith traditions play out in society: in our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Above all, we will learn how we navigate complexity in a country that is more religiously diverse than at any time in its history.
