THEA 269 - Special Topics in Dramatic Literature

2 or 4 credits
This course will focus on selected topics in Dramatic Literature with an emphasis on international and/or transnational populations, social constructs, and/or cultures. Plays covered will explore how global forces have shaped these populations and how they have responded. Some questions to be explored may include: How have theatre artists from various diverse populations opened up new terrain both socially and aesthetically? Is theatre a form of entertainment or social protest or ritual? Howcan these forms be combined? In addition, we will look at the kinds of relationships explored in the plays: What types of racial or ethnic relationships are depicted? What about gender, sexual orientation, and class?
