SPAN 312 - Love, Sex, and Spirituality in Early Modern Spain4 credits This course addresses the theme of love, both human and divine, as expressed in Spanish poetry, narrative, and drama from the late 15th to the early 17th centuries. Discussions of literary selections will address each work in its specific historical contexts during the early modern period, while also addressing the theories of love that inform these works. We will pay particular attention to the diverse modalities of amorous representations, both earthly and spiritual, as well as the roles of women as writers and characters. Prerequisite: SPAN 310 or special permission. CLA-Writing Intensive
