SPAN 365 - Spanish Sociolinguistics4 credits This course will familiarize students with issues of language use in context in Spanish-speaking communities around the world. Students will learn the field’s main findings and methods for sociolinguistic analysis. They will become familiar with concepts such as linguistic variation, linguistic change, standard vs. non-prestigious varieties, bilingualism, diglossia, language attitudes, language planning, and conversation analysis.
