CRW 540 - Language and Learning in Theological Education

0 credits

Language and Learning in Theological Education is an intensive English language course comprising two segments, CRW 540 and CRW 541, and is designed to develop advanced English language skills for successful academic achievement in theological education, critical thinking skills for participatory graduate–level study, familiarity with American academic culture, and the diversity of worship experiences in American Christianity. Participation in both segments of the course also involves field trips to select locations in the metro New York area for cultural enrichment. The course is specifically intended for students whose first language is not English and who have not graduated from an American university.  To receive credit for the course, both segments of the course must be successfully completed.  Grades are assigned following the successful completion of the two segments of the course.

This intensive course is offered annually for three weeks during the month of August. Classes are held daily, Monday through Thursday, and include an interactive advanced speaking class, advanced writing instruction, and a writing workshop.  Instruction focuses on developing critical thinking skills for all aspects of the academic experience in the American classroom. Field trips are scheduled on Fridays in the metro NY area, and students attend area worship services in a variety of locations on Sundays. Offered annually. The course comprises two segments: (1) summer segment held six days, weekly, during the month of August and (2) a fall semester segment with class held once per week.
