BIOL 120 - Human Health and Disease

4 credits
In this course, students will learn about the basic biological functioning of the human body, and how various factors can influence health, wellness and disease.  After a brief overview of human anatomy, physiology and pathology, we will explore biological and nonbiological determinants of human health in both individuals and communities.  Emphasis will be placed on conditions that are of particular concern to the public health community, such as diabetes, communicable disease, and maternal-fetal health.  Students will learn to identify and critically assess risk factors for disease and develop strategies for the promotion of health and wellness.
