EDUC 506 - Differentiated Assessment and Instruction

3 credits
This course is designed to provide prospective educators with the resources to create a learning environment that will maximize the potential for student success by using the strategies associated with differentiated instruction (DI). Teacher candidates will gain knowledge of how to manage instructional time in a way that meets the standards and also provides motivating, challenging, and meaningful experiences for school age students with divergent learning styles, interests, readiness levels, and motivation. The course builds a conceptual understanding of the model of differentiated instruction, including the philosophical underpinnings. The course will focus on using research-based teaching strategies to help all learners, including English language learners and students with special needs, to meet Common Core State Standards, New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, and college and career readiness standards. Practical applications of how to differentiate with the content, process, and product will be explored while planning differentiated lessons.
