EDUC 612 - Assessment of Students with Exceptional Learning Needs

3 credits
This course prepares teacher candidates to use formal and informal methods of assessment, analyze student data, monitor student progress, plan individualized educational programs for students with identified disabilities, determine teacher impact on student learning, and evaluate program effectiveness. Establishing equitable grading policies, monitoring individual exducational program (IEP) goals, and providing accommodations and modifications of curriculum and testing specific to teaching the subject areas of English Language Arts and Social Studies will be addressed. Teacher Candidates will have the opportunity to evaluate, select, develop, and adapt assessment materials with a focus on curriculum-based assessment. Issues of non-biased assessment  and instructional implications of large-scale achievement testing are included. Emphasis will be placed on making effective placement and instructional decisions based upon assessment data. A course embedded field component will be required.
