ARCR 825 - Grassroots Peacebuilding in Northern Ireland Cultural Notes from a Small Island3 credits
A lecture “tour” looking at diverse aspects of culture in the context of the conflict in and around Northern Ireland. We will explore a variety of fascinating topics and include the activities and influences of cultural institutions such as the Orange Order and Gaelic Athletic Association, the arts as a tool to segregate or build peace, our unique approach to territorial marking by flags, contentious spaces and places, and other cultural issues peculiar to this tiny periphery of Europe. This course is a Hybrid (online and in class combination).
