EDUC 540 - Inquiry in Math and Science

3 credits
This course will provide an overview of inquiry based methods for teaching science and mathematics in a classroom setting. Participants will examine various ways of interpreting and employing the scientific method, as well as identifying and employing effective mathematical tools for a variety of situations. Emphasis will be placed on developing  teaching methods that allow students to discover scientific and mathematical principles  through exploration, observation, experimentation and theory development. The course is partially based on field experience in which participants collaborate with teachers in a local school to design, develop, produce and evaluate teaching materials to be used in a given unit of study.
