CHEM 250 - Organic Chemistry I4 credits A systematic survey of structure, nomenclature, and reactions of common functional groups and carbon compounds. Topics include stereochemistry, chirality, stereoisomerism, nucleophilic substitution and elimination, insertions, radical processes, oxidation-reduction and acid-base equilibria. Includes spectroscopic analysis. Discusses applications to systems of biological significance. Prerequisite: C- or better in CHEM 160 or permission of instructor. Offered fall semester and occasional summers CLA-Breadth/Natural Science
