AREL 829 - Contemporary Poetry3 credits This course will explore poetry written in the United States and Europe from 1960 to the present, with special emphasis on works published in the last 30 years. We will consider the influence of literary Modernism on contemporary poets, as well as themes of loss, grief, survival, and resilience. We will read and respond to the works of Heany, Szymborska, Hirshfield, Oliver, among many others.
