Course description: Biblical archaeology is a specialized branch of archaeology that is devoted to the gathering and classification of archaeological data that come from or relate to the areas included in the biblical world and the times that may be pertinent to the biblical stories. This course is an introduction to biblical archaeology as a source for understanding and appropriating the cultures of the various communities of the ancient Near East, and those of Hellenistic/Roman Levant. The successful student will begin to develop the skills, competence, and confidence to employ archaeology when articulating informed interpretations that honor a text’s complexity.
