PSTH 672 - Ritual of Our Lives3 credits
Rituals are essential for human survival. To be human is to ritualize. Individuals and societies create and express meaning. We commune and communicate what is “real” through this holy human practice. What happens when there’s a fracturing of traditional forms of communion and communication? What rituals will help this generation to live wholly human as well as holy humans? The seminar will explore these relationships through readings, discussion, and observation ritual studies and sites, performance, and liturgy. Research in and design of a life cycle ritual will be part of the course requirement.
