CHST 766 - The Minister in the MIrror3 credits We look into the mirror of popular culture – novels, TV, movies, and social media – to see how these media shape understandings of just who a minister is and what a minister does. What can fictional and non-fictional depictions tell us about a minister’s role? Why are ministers sometimes valued positively, and at other times presented or interpreted as irrelevant, or worse, as objects of satire and scorn? Do these cultural representations create expectations for you as a minister, or influence your own self-understanding? And finally, is it possible to strive for authenticity to your calling under the weight of these cultural representations? This course is intended for advanced Theo students in the MDiv and MAM program, who are considering (or have answered) a call to ministry.
