If Acts is empirical historiography does creating a sub-genre of religious history clarify issues of genre, purpose, and meaning within the Acts? The literary tropes of angels, visions, and auditions raise different responses to these issues and further complicate the scholarly issues. How do these tropes open up issues of history, fiction, and propaganda as genre, purpose, and/or meaning? These questions provide the frame for a study of the Acts of the Apostles.
