MAT 800 - School & Society: American Schooling from its Origins to the Global Era3 credits This course provides students with an overview of the history and philosophy of education in the United States. It investigates key issues such as literacy, diversity and equity, the education of teachers, and school reform from historical and contemporary perspectives. Major educational philosophies are studied as they develop and change in various historical eras. The course also examines how globalization and large scale immigration are affecting schooling and youth.
