HC 872 - The Springtime of the Peoples?3 credits 1848 marked a watershed in nineteenth-century European political history, despite the fact that many of the uprisings associated with this year were quickly put down. The repercussions of this short-lived revolutionary activity were felt as far away as Australia, Cape Town (South Africa) and in North and South America. This course examines the impact of the 1848 revolutions, placing these political upheavals in the context of other cultural, technological and ideological changes that were taking place, both in Europe and elsewhere.
