HC 817 - The United States and the World3 credits This course will explore US foreign relations during the twentieth century. We will attempt to explain what has historically motivated the architects of US foreign policy and how US leaders have changed within a changing international context. The course will also examine US interaction with the world beyond the realm of traditional policy makers: we will explore the role of state as well non-state actors, private corporations, NGOs, missionaries, and the internationalization/impact of ideas through the writings of scholars, policymakers, and activists as well as historical documents.
