ENGL 108 - Latino/a Literature2-4 credits This course will reconsider such issues as critical race theory and identity construction, gender and sexuality, hybridity, American canon formation, and nation-building in light of the contemporary Latino Boom (in music, film, art, television, and literature). The course considers thematic and figurative background to the literature such as la Malinche, Aztlan, Quetzalcoatl, Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, la Llorona, la Virgen de Guadalupe, Nepantla, and Braceros. Authors studied may include Ana Castillo, Sandra Cisneros, Cherrie Moraga, Gloria Anzaldua, Rudolfo Anaya, Rolando Hinojosa, Luis Valdez, Cristina Garcia, Junot Diaz, and Julia Alvarez.
